The Right Perspective II

It is absolutely true that Jesus is the greatest Gift ever given to mankind. Whether man realizes it or not, He is exactly what we have wanted (and needed). We’ve all gotten gifts that were hard to appreciate. We accepted them with all the gratitude that we could possibly muster in order to preserve the feelings of the giver. However, we were disappointed nonetheless. We’ve all been told, “It is the thought that counts.” However, we all know that this is a sometimes difficult perspective to experience. The trouble? All human beings want for so much. We long to be fulfilled. This is how we were created. God created us to long for Him and in turn to be fulfilled by Him. However, sin has corrupted our understanding, our perspective. Now we think that we can be fulfilled with the things of this earth. Tragically, this is where Satan rules. He longs to remove man’s gaze from God knowing that to do this, only means destruction.

So if our perspective has been tainted, what does a good perspective look like? Let’s look again at the heart of David and see.

II Samuel 7: (8-17), 18-29

  1. David was astonished that God would look upon him with such favor. (servant)
  2. David recognizes that there is no other God besides the God of Israel.
  3. David sat in amazement at the sovereignty, power, and glory of His God.
  4. David longed for God’s glory to be magnified in all the earth.
  5. David wanted to see the will of God played out just exactly how God presented it.
    1. Luke 1:26-33

Let’s look through the eyes of Mary.

Luke 2:38, 46-55

  1. Mary wanted to see the will of God played out just exactly how God presented it.
  2. Mary is astonished that God would look upon her with such favor. (bond-slave)
  3. Mary stares in amazement at the mercy, faithfulness, and power of her God.
  4. She marvels at His sovereignty from of old.

Take Away

  1. People who see God are looking for Him.
    1. Jeremiah 29:12-14 - 12‘Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.   13‘You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.   14‘I will be found by you,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will restore your fortunes and will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will bring you back to the place from where I sent you into exile.’
  2. People who recognize the sovereignty and wisdom of God are comforted.
    1. Romans 11:33-36 - 33Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!   34For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor?   35Or who has first given to Him that it might be paid back to him again?   36For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.
