Portrait of a Savior V

If you can honestly and confidently say this morning that you are a child of the living God by faith in Jesus Christ His only Son, His life, His death, and His resurrection, then you are truly and absolutely eternally fortunate.

Point to remember for today

  • Jesus Christ is eternal creator God incarnate (Embodied in human flesh).

Colossians 1:16-17

  1. All things were created by Him and for Him.
    1. John 1:1-4 - 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God.
3All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men
    2. Heaven and Earth
      1. The vast reaches of the universe.
      2. The depth of the seas.
      3. The enormous to the imperceptibly microscopic
    3. Visible and invisible
      1. There are colors in the light spectrum we can see and many more we cannot.
      2.  There is more going on around us than our senses can discern.
    4. Thrones, dominions, rulers, and authorities
      1. II Kings 6:15-17 - Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
16So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
17Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the servant’s eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
      2. Hebrews 13:2 - Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.
  2. All things are under His control.
    1. In Him all things hold together
      1. “an upholds all things by the word of His power” (Hebrews 1:3b)
    2. Matthew 8:23-27 - 23When He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. 24And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered with the waves; but Jesus Himself was asleep.
25And they came to Him and woke Him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing!” 26He said* to them, “Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm. 27The men were amazed, and said, “What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
    3. Matthew 8:28-29 - “Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29“Are not two sparrows sold for a £cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.
  3. Application
    1. We must strive to be living according to His calling.
      1. Remember Jonah
    2. We can enjoy our lives without fear.
      1. I Timothy 6:17 - 17Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy
    3. We must not fear man.
      1. Psalm 56:11 - In God I have put my £trust, I shall not be afraid.     What can man do to me?
