Portrait of a Savior III
  1. Jesus has qualified us.
    1. Our qualification is undeserved.
      1. Ephesians 1:6
    2. Our qualification effectual.
      1. II Corinthians 3:4-6 - 4Such confidence we have through Christ toward God.
5Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God,
6who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
      2. II Corinthians 4:5-7 - 5For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus’ sake.   6For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.   7But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;
  2. Jesus has qualified us for a glorious inheritance.
    1. Our in heritance is now.
      1. John 10:10 - “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
      2. Ephesians 1:3, 6 - 3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ
      3. Psalm 23
    2. Our inheritance is forever.
      1. I Peter 1:3-4 - 3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
  3. Jesus has rescued us from darkness.
    1. Rescue – To deliver from danger
      1. Exodus
      2. Ephesians 2:1-7 - 1And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,
2in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

  4. Jesus has transferred us into an eternal kingdom.
    1. Transfer – Deportation of a population from one country to another. History records the fact that Antiochus the Great transported at least 2,000 Jews from Babylonia to Colossae.
      1. Ephesians 2:4-7 - 4But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together £with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
    2. Son He loves – The love with which the Father loves the Son is a love which we share.
      1. John 17:22-26 - 22“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; 23I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. 24“Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25“O righteous Father, although the world has not known You, yet I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me; 26and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
      2. Ephesians 5:28 - So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself…
  5. Jesus purchased us with His blood.
    1. He redeemed us. He paid our ransom to God to set us free (free from consequences of sin). The Law demanded condemnation to a sinner. The condemnation is death, separation from Holy God.
      1. I Corinthians 6:19-20 - 19Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?   20For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
  6. In Jesus we are forgiven.
    1. Redemption and forgiveness go together.
      1. Ephesians 1:7 - 7In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
      2. He has forgiven us. Forgiveness is freedom. Satan will accuse us before God. However, in Christ we are justified. We can stand up straight as it was, have confidence before God, breathe easy, relax and enjoy our blessed relationship.
      3. Jesus Christ is preeminent in salvation. No other person could redeem us, forgive us, transfer us out of Satan’s kingdom into God’s kingdom, and do it wholly by grace. The phrase, “through His blood,” reminds us of the cost of our salvation. Moses and the Israelites only had to shed the blood of a lamb to be delivered from Egypt. But Jesus had to shed His blood to deliver us from sin. (Warren Weirsbe: Be Complete)
