Knit Together in Love

The kingdom of God is a kingdom of love. Our Creator is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Though three distinct persons, they are one. There is absolutely no disharmony. One might ask, “How are they one God?” The answers to this question are most likely far and wide. However, from the truth He has revealed in scripture, I believe we can say that Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are “knit together in love”.

Colossians 2:1-3

For I want you to know how great a struggle I have on your behalf and for those who are at Laodicea, and for all those who have not personally seen my face, 2that their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself,
3in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

  1. The hallmark of God’s kingdom is love.
    1. Matthew 22:37-40 - And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’   38“This is the great and foremost commandment.   39“The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’   40On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
    2. John 13:35 - “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
    3. I John 4:7-11 - 7Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.   8The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.   9By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.   10In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.   11Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
  2. Love must be our greatest desire, our most longed for experience.
    1. I Corinthians 13:1-6, 13
      1. The Corinthian Christians wanted the gifts of God but lacked the key ingredient, LOVE.
      2. The Corinthian Christians were gifted but unloving.
      3. The Corinthian Christians needed to desire the greatest gift over temporal reward.
  3. Love seeks the good (glory) of the recipient.
    1. Love and glory between the Father, Son, and Spirit
      1. John 8:54 - 54Jesus answered, “If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God’
      2. John 11:4 - 4But when Jesus heard this, He said, “This sickness is not to end in death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.”
    2. Love seeks and saves.
      1. Romans 5:8 - 8But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
      2. I John 3:1 - See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him
    3. Love meets needs.
      1. I John 3:14-17 - 14We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.   15Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.   16We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.   17But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?
  4. Application
    1. Seek to experience the Father’s the love for you.
    2. Seek to be motivated by the love you experience from the Father.
    3. Seek the greatest love at all costs.
