Jesus Our Glory

Colossians 1:27

“Christ in you the hope of glory”

The theme of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is “Christ in us.” Adam Clark put it this way. “He proclaimed this Christ as being in them; for the design of the Gospel is to put men in possession of the Spirit and power of Christ, to make them partakers of the Divine nature, and thus prepare them for an eternal union with himself. Should it be said that the preposition εν (in) should be translated among, it amounts to the same; for Christ was among them, to enlighten, quicken, purify, and refine them, and this he could not do without dwelling in them.”

  1. Christ in us reveals our glory to come.
    1. Observe the hope.
      1. Colossians 3:2-4 - Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. 3For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
      2. Romans 8:18, 23, 30 - 18For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us…23And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body…30and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.
      3. II Corinthians 4:17-18 - 16Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. 17For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
      4.
  2. Christ in us reveals His glory now.
    1. A testimonial from an enemy of Christ
      1. Galatians 1:13-17, 22-24
        1. Paul was a persecutor of the church.
        2. Paul sought to destroy the church.
        3. Paul, in ignorance, thought He was doing service to God.
        4. Paul received a revelation of Christ and His blind eyes were opened to see the truth.
        5. Paul, in Christ, saw his purpose for living, to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles.
        6. Paul understood that the will of God was to reveal His Son in him. (vs. 16a)
        7. Paul, once an enemy to the church, now preached the Gospel which he once tried to destroy.
        8. The glory of God in Paul caused the church to glorify God.
  3. Points to ponder
    1. Where is your focus today?
    2. Take time to examine yourself.
      1. II Corinthians 13:5 - 5Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test?
