A Victorious Distribution of Gifts

Our goal in this series of messages is to be stimulated into fulfilling our God ordained purpose and experience fullness of joy in Christ.

  • We have a holy calling (vocation) that has been lavishly paid for (example) by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross and His mighty resurrection from the dead.

Ephesians 4:4-10

  1. Unity of purpose and power and presence
    1. One church – The body
    2. One power – The Holy Spirit
    3. One hope – The glory of God for eternity
    4. One Lord – Jesus Christ our head (of the body)
    5. One faith – No other name under heaven by which men are saved
    6. One baptism -

  2. Grace
    1. “My grace is sufficient for you” – II Corinthians 12:7-10
    2. God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense
  3. Measure
    1. Each believer is given very specific ingredients.
      1. I Corinthians 12:7 - But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
  4. Each member endowed
    1. Every member has a measure that must be used.
      1. Romans 12:6a - Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly
  5. Jesus descended into the earthly realm in order to right our wrongs. He ascended again into heaven in order to secure our victory.
    1. Paul adapted Psalm 68:18 for his message here – “You have ascended on high, You have led captive Your captives;     You have received gifts among men,     Even among the rebellious also, that the LORD God may dwell there.”
      1. The present is obviously a song to be sung at the removal of the ark; and in all probability was rehearsed when David conducted it with holy joy from the house of Obededom to the prepared place on Mount Zion. It is a most soul stirring hymn. The first verses were often the battle song of the Covenanters and Ironsides; and the whole Psalms fitly pictures the way of the Lord Jesus among his saints, and his ascent to glory. (Charles Spurgeon; The Treasury of David)
      2. Jesus won the victory for all who will believe! He has brought the spoil to you and me. We are called to examine it, rejoice in it, and use it!
  6. App
    1. Have you recognized Christ’s gift?
    2. Have you realized you can’t afford it?
    3. Have you called to Him for mercy and asked for the gift of salvation?
    4. Have you realized your calling and gifts?
    5. Are you using them today?
    6. Don’t settle for mere earthly pleasures. They are filth compared to Christ.
